Mary Turner Day...
bearing Pastor James E. Shakelford’s mother’s name, has become a significant community outreach. This event is fully sponsored by community donations. What started as a small gesture in 2009 to meet the need of members of the congregation and local families, expanded into a major community event.
In 2009 a total of 158 book bags with supplies were given to the families within the community. Following that year, 283 book bags were donated in 2010.
In 2011, growth continued as the church gave out 532 book bags with supplies, district information, and clinic locations where parents could take their school age students for required vaccinations. In 2012 that amount was exceeded and over a 1000 book bags with supplies were distributed to students in the community and has continued as an annual event.
